Artistic Director Margot Mink Colbert
Vaslav Nijinsky’s “L’apres Midi d’un Faune”
Through her professorship at UNLV, Margot Mink Colbert has initiated and coordinated a historic event within the UNLV community. With the UNLV Dance Ensemble and the UNLV Symphony Orchestra, Ballet Mink has reconstructed the historic “L’apres Midi d’un Faune” performance by Russian ballet dancer and choreographer, Vaslav Nijinsky.
This historic reconstruction is from Nijinsky’s own choreographic notation from the Labanotation score by Dr. Ann Hutchinson. This Ballet Russes’ work jump-started the art of contemporary ballet. Not only is it a notorious piece by the world famous 19th century dancer, but in this, his first choreographic effort, Nijinsky broke completely new ground, presenting a dance style that had been deemed the beginning of modern dance.
When: October 18 & 19, 2013
